Ernakulam: In a significant development, the investigation into sexual assault allegations against a senior doctor at Ernakulam General Hospital is gaining momentum as the complainant, a female doctor, is set to provide her statement today. The doctor, who is currently residing abroad, will deliver her statement online, following which the Kochi Central Police will proceed to register a First Information Report (FIR).
The allegations have cast a shadow over the medical community, with the female doctor accusing a senior doctor at Ernakulam General Hospital of forcibly assaulting her. In response to the serious nature of these allegations, the State Health Department has initiated an inquiry into the incident, which dates back to 2019.
The Minister, recognising the gravity of the situation, has directed the Director of the Health Department to oversee a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The complainant had previously reported the incident to both the director of the health department and the hospital’s superintendent.
In 2019, the female doctor raised allegations that during her house surgery at Ernakulam District Hospital, a senior doctor had forcibly kissed her on the face. She brought these accusations to light by posting about the incident on Facebook. Furthermore, she asserted that she promptly filed a complaint against the senior doctor with senior authorities on the following day. However, her efforts yielded no discernible outcomes. The senior doctor’s response was that the accused doctor has since relocated from the general hospital.
