Thiruvananthapuram: Power tariff in Kerala may go up soon. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has formally requested approval from the power regulatory authority to gradually raise the power tariff by Rs. 1.05 per unit over the course of the next four years. Additionally, KSEB has proposed a 50 paise per unit increase for industrial consumers.
These proposed tariff hikes will be implemented gradually over the next four years, subject to regulatory approval. A decision regarding this matter is expected only after September 14, coinciding with the ongoing Kerala Legislative Assembly session.
The existing power rates remain in effect until September 30, with the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission slated to issue an official order regarding the tariff increase upon receiving input from the government.
The initiative to adjust the rates was instigated by the KSEB following a High Court ruling related to the tariff hike and, in addition, awaited the conclusion of the Puthuppally by-election before proceeding.
