Malappuram, Kerala: An auto-rickshaw driver lost his life when his vehicle overturned in a waterlogged section of the road in Vadassery. The deceased, identified as Yunus (50), a native of Manimooli, was tragically killed in the accident that occurred on the Koyilandy to Nilambur state highway during the morning hours.

The unfortunate incident unfolded as Yunus was ferrying a passenger, Ubaid, to the airport. Ubaid recounted the harrowing experience, explaining that the auto-rickshaw overturned when the driver applied a sudden break in a waterlogged area in Vadassery, causing the driver to be thrown beneath the vehicle. Promptly, onlookers rushed to the scene and managed to extricate Yunus from the auto-rickshaw. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, his life could not be saved.

The incident has raised concerns among locals regarding the state of the road. Just a few days ago, efforts were made to restore the road by filling in ditches on both sides. However, the community has observed that even a slight amount of rainfall can lead to waterlogging on the road, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and commuters.

Locals have expressed their distress, citing a similar incident just last week when a motorcyclist was injured in a fall into waterlogged terrain on the same road.
