Kannur: The historic Thalassery Thalayi Balagopala Temple fell victim to a daring theft over the weekend. The thief targeted the temple’s vaults, making off with more than half a lakh rupees. Authorities are now diligently investigating the crime with the help of CCTV footage obtained from the temple.
The theft took place on Saturday. The thief’s face was obscured with a kerchief, and he was dressed in black attire, making it difficult to discern their identity.
The temple treasury has remained untouched since the conclusion of recent festivals, including Sri Krishna Jayanti. The miscreants wasted no time, immediately focusing their efforts on the vaults situated on the left and right sides of the temple’s interior. In a bid to gain access to additional riches, they even attempted to breach the temple’s exterior treasury but were unsuccessful.
The thieves resorted to cutting the locks with a blade to gain access to the valuable contents within the temple. The Thalassery police, have launched an intensive investigation into the incident, with a particular focus on the CCTV footage.
