Kochi: The Aluva Rural SP has announced the suspension of the sub-inspector (SI) Sunil Kumar involved in the assault off a bakery owner in Nedumbassery. A complaint had been lodged, stating that five individuals, including a girl, were victims of unprovoked physical assault by the SI. The incident occurred when SI Sunil Kumar visited the Cool Bar at Kariyad Junction and reportedly instigated the assault.
The incident took place last night when SI Sunil Kumar arrived at the shop in the control room vehicle, just as the shop was closing for the night. The driver was also present in the vehicle. Upon reaching the shop, SI Sunil started assaulting individuals there using a cane. The violence was reported as unprovoked.
The shop owner Kunjumon, his wife Alby, daughter Merin, their helper Baiju, and a dealer named Johnny were among those assaulted. Local residents rushed to the scene upon witnessing the incident and apprehended the SI, subsequently handing him over to the police.
The Nedumbassery police arrived at the scene after receiving the information. Witnesses from the local community reported that SI Sunil Kumar was under the influence of alcohol. Sunil Kumar was then taken to Angamaly Taluk Hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed his intoxication.
