Idukki: In a precautionary move prompted by the relentless downpour in the eastern regions of Kottayam district, tourists planning to visit the picturesque hill station of Vagamon have been advised to exercise caution. The warning comes from Kottayam Collector V. Vigneshwari, who has urged travellers to avoid night travel over the next three days due to the challenging weather conditions.
The inclement weather has already left its mark, with heavy rains lashing the area in recent days. On the crucial Erattupetta-Vagamon route, travellers faced a daunting situation as landslides brought vehicular movement to a standstill. It took more effort to clear the roads and make them passable once again.
Landslides have surfaced in several areas, including Vellayani and Inchappara in the Theekoy panchayat of Kottayam district. While the landslides did not result in any casualties, they have left a trail of destruction in their wake, with extensive damage to crops and vegetation reported.
Authorities and local officials have been working tirelessly to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Landslides, a recurring concern in hilly regions during heavy rains, necessitate careful monitoring and mitigation efforts to prevent accidents and further damage.
