Thiruvananthapuram : Virtual loan apps, operating without any physical presence or location, has cast a dark shadow over two families in Kerala. The suicides of Ajayan from Wayanad and a family of four in Kochi are tragically linked to the pernicious threats posed by these unregulated online loan app operators. In both cases, the perpetrators resorted to creating and sharing morphed images of women, targeting the relatives and friends of the victims. This was a means of retribution against those who were unable to meet their loan repayment obligations.
To address this growing concern, the Kerala Police have initiated a crucial step by providing a WhatsApp number, allowing victims to report instances of fraud and harassment.
Victims of loan app scams can now register their complaints through text, photos, videos, and voice messages by contacting the police on WhatsApp at any hour of the day using the number 94 97 98 09 00. Additionally, individuals can also report incidents and seek assistance by calling 1930 at any time, ensuring that help and support are readily available to those in need.
