MALAPPURAM: A pregnant woman received the wrong blood transfusion in Kerala’s Malappuram district, leading to demands from her relatives for action against the nurse responsible for the error.
It has been reported that Ruksana (26), a resident of Ponnani, was admitted to the Government Women and Children Hospital in Ponnani after her hemoglobin levels dropped. Ruksana’s blood type is ‘O’ negative; however, she was mistakenly transfused with ‘B’ positive blood.
Following the incorrect blood transfusion, Ruksana experienced shivering and discomfort. The error was discovered during a subsequent examination prompted by the patient’s discomfort.
Her relatives promptly rushed her to Thrissur Medical College Hospital. The news of the incident quickly spread, resulting in numerous criticisms.
Officials at Thrissur Medical College reported that both the woman and the fetus are showing signs of improvement in their health conditions.
Meanwhile, the District Medical Officer (DMO) in Malappuram has initiated an inquiry into the incident.
