Ernakulam: In response to a petition, the Kerala High Court has issued a stern directive to crack down on hotels that are responsible for dumping garbage into Kochi’s drainage system. The recent monsoon season witnessed severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, prompting the court’s intervention. The High Court’s warning regarding the disposal of waste into drains came during its deliberations on the matter.
The court’s directive targets hotel owners who have been found guilty of contributing to the waterlogging problem by disposing of their waste improperly, notably along MG Road. Notably, when the drainage system was last cleared of garbage, instances of waterlogging significantly decreased. However, the recurrence of the issue is linked to the reaccumulation of waste.
In light of this situation, the High Court has taken a firm stance, demanding strict action against hotel owners who continue to contribute to the clogging of drains with their garbage.
