PALAKKAD: A man was arrested in connection with the incident of stealing Rs 5,000 from a lottery sales agent by altering the number on the lottery ticket.
Kasaba Police reported that Gafoor (50), a resident of Wadakkanchery in Thrissur district, was apprehended for this offense. A cheating case has been filed against the accused, following a complaint by Sindhu, a lottery street vendor in Chandranagar, Palakkad district. Gafoor managed to steal Rs. 5,000 from the lottery vendor by tampering with the ticket’s number.
The accused altered the ticket number in a manner that was not easily detectable. After receiving the altered ticket, the vendor handed him Rs. 5,000, only realizing the mistake later on.
Subsequently, the Kasaba police arrested the accused based on CCTV footage.
The police reported that Gafoor had been employing a similar modus operandi in other locations in the district for the past three years.
