Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has issued an order recognizing Aadhaar as the sole document required for availing services at the Department of Motor Vehicles. The Aadhaar card now serves as both proof of age and address for 21 different services, eliminating the need for additional document submissions. This decision aligns with the directives of the central government and involves a software update to facilitate its implementation.
The services covered by this Aadhaar-based verification include the transfer of vehicle ownership, updating the address in the RC book, cancellation of hypothecation, and permit renewal, among others. Individuals seeking these services will now only need to provide their Aadhaar card for verification.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently extended the deadline for Aadhaar updates to December 14. Users can conveniently update their Aadhaar information online, free of charge, through the ‘My Aadhaar Portal.’ UIDAI strongly recommends updating all Aadhaar cards that were issued a decade ago, particularly if there have been changes in the holder’s name, address, or other essential details.
