Thiruvananthapuram: The capital city faced disruptions in power supply as heavy rains, which started last night, prompted the shutdown of the 110 KV substation in Kazhakootam because water from the Thettiar stream, located near the Kazhakootam substation, is flowing into the substation.
For security reasons, the 11 KV substations at University, and Oceanus have been turned off. If the water keeps flooding into the substation, there is a likelihood that the operation of the substation will need to be halted entirely. In such a scenario, there could be total or partial interruptions in the power supply to areas such as Kazhakootam, Karyavattom, Pangappara, Sreekaryam.
If the water inundation persists, there is a possibility of a complete or partial shutdown of the substation, affecting power supply in areas such as Kazhakootam, Kariyavattam, Pangappara, and Srikariyam. Additionally, operations at Telsa, Muttathara, and Veli substations, dependent on Kazhakoottam substation, may also face complete disruptions.
