Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Railways has launched a mobile app that allows travellers to purchase train tickets without the need to visit a railway station. The initiative is aimed at streamlining the ticketing process, reducing queues, and making travel more accessible for commuters.
The Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app, which facilitates the booking of general tickets, season tickets, and platform tickets, has gained traction with the support of National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) students who have taken up the responsibility of promoting the application. Their efforts have been promoted with a video message from popular movie star Kunchacko Boban, further amplifying awareness and encouraging the public to embrace the digital ticketing solution.
Passengers can reduce the traditional queueing system by utilising the UTS app, ensuring a hassle-free experience for obtaining unreserved tickets. The app also offers the added convenience of recharging a digital wallet, providing users with discounts on ticket prices as an incentive for adopting the digital platform.
Additionally, the railway authorities have informed the public that tickets can also be acquired by scanning the UTS QR codes at the railway stations, further simplifying the ticket procurement process.
