Kannur: A strike has gripped Panoor today as traders and trade unions unite in a call for an end to the unscientific traffic signal system. The protest lies in the challenges posed by the current traffic setup from Panoor Town Junction to Thalassery Road.
The protesters are saying that the traffic signal post that is installed at the junction doesn’t have the necessary safety features, and turning vehicles in that area has become difficult.
A sum of Rs. 75 lakh had been allocated for widening the junction, but the construction work has not yet commenced.
Traders argue that the Municipal Corporation and Police have shown unwillingness to implement decisions made during Traffic Committee meetings.
