Ownership, possession certificates no longer required for small buildings to get electricity connection

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced that small buildings and buildings designated for domestic use will no longer require proof of ownership or possession certificates in order to obtain an electricity connection. This significant change was communicated by KSEB through their official Facebook page. This new regulation specifically pertains to buildings with a floor area measuring less than 100 square metres (approximately 1076 square feet).

Under these revised guidelines, the primary criteria for eligibility are that the building’s total floor area remains below 100 square metres and that the building is exclusively intended for residential purposes. It is essential to note that obtaining an electricity connection under this policy does not imply any legal claim of ownership or possession of the property.

Additionally, KSEB has clarified that the power connection may be subject to permanent or temporary disconnection upon written request by an authorized officer to the KSEB authority. However, to apply for an electricity connection, individuals only need to submit a certification containing the specified details, preferably on white paper, along with their application.
