Tirur: The long waiting and prayer of language lovers and Hindus comes to an end. Samoothiri Raja (Zamorin King) of Kozhikode allowed the statue of Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam language and spiritual teacher, to be installed in Tirur. Samothiri’s private secretary TR Ramavarma released this information.
The statue of Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan is set to be installed within the premises of Thrikkandiyur Ambalakulangara Devi temple, a place he frequented. It was through the intervention of the activists of the Sanatana Dharma Vedi, Tirur that Samoothiri Raja allowed the statue of the writer to be installed at Ambalakulangara Devi temple premises in Tirur. Neither the Municipal Corporation of Tirur, nor the Thunchan Memorial Trust under MT’s leadership, showed willingness to place the writer’s statue in Tirur city or Thunchan Parambu, despite repeated appeals from linguists.
Efforts were made to place the writer’s statue on railway-owned land, but those attempts proved unsuccessful. It was at this juncture that the permission to install the statue within the temple compound, belonging to the Samoothiri Kovilakam Trust, was granted by the Samoothiri Raja of Kozhikode. This initiative also received the blessing of the temple’s Tantri (priest).
Sanatana Dharmavedi, a spiritual and cultural organization that has been active in Tirur for over a decade, has declared its commitment to oversee the installation process.
