Thiruvananthapuram: The health department has issued a warning about the surge of dengue fever in the state, with a recent dengue-related death in Thiruvananthapuram. In response to the increasing in number of dengue cases, the Health Minister, Veena George, has called for a high-level meeting tomorrow to address the situation. Health experts emphasise the need for caution, particularly among the elderly .
Although the current situation is not deemed critical, the state has seen a notable increase in dengue cases in the last month, with 1697 reported cases and three fatalities. Additionally, 210 cases of rat fever were reported, resulting in six deaths.
In the current month, 1370 dengue fever cases and 297 rat fever cases have been reported, leading to five dengue fever-related deaths and 12 rat fever fatalities.
The recent death of a 27-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram, along with the previous deaths of a six-year-old girl and a 27-year-old man, has raised concerns. Notably, three deaths have occurred in the Thiruvananthapuram district within a ten-day period.
The rising cases of dengue fever are attributed in part to intermittent rains and waterlogging in various areas.
