Thiruvananthapuram: The Transport Department has issued a mandate requiring heavy vehicles to have seat belts and cameras to obtain a fitness certificate. Transport Minister Antony Raju announced that this directive will be enforced from November 1st. Additionally, the minister specified that all heavy vehicles and heavy vehicles with stage carriages must have seat belts for the front seat passengers in addition to the driver.
The minister further disclosed that compliance with the Central Act’s specifications for installing seat belts and cameras inside and outside stage carriages will be enforced starting November 1st. This regulation will be applicable to all vehicles submitted for fitness certification on or after November 1st.
In response to the requests of vehicle owners, Minister Raju underscored that, as of November 1st, only vehicles equipped with both seat belts and cameras will be eligible for fitness certificates, as stated in the official order.
