Thiruvananthapuram: A container truck transporting fish caught fire near Kovalam junction yesterday evening, narrowly avoiding a major accident. Responding to the incident, the Fire Force team from Vizhinjam promptly arrived and successfully extinguished the blaze, with no reported injuries.
The fire broke out in the truck’s engine compartment while en route from Colachel to Mangalore. The driver and the helper recognised the danger when heavy smoke infiltrated the cabin, prompting them to stop the vehicle and escape in a timely manner, preventing any casualties.
Local residents alerted the Vizhinjam Fire Force personnel, who swiftly doused the flames with water. A preliminary investigation suggests that a short circuit caused the fire. The container truck was registered to Jagan, a resident of Karingal in Kanyakumari.
