Kannur: An epidemic prevention expert team is set to conduct an inspection today at Thalassery Court in response to confirmed cases of the Zika virus among lawyers and court employees. The alarming discovery of eight confirmed Zika virus cases has raised concerns and prompted this examination.
The expert team’s inspection is happening because more people are displaying symptoms. The team will take more blood samples for testing.
Last week, judicial officers in three courts at the district court complex were affected by illness. This health issue later extended to judges, lawyers, and court staff. Approximately fifty people who visited the court experienced symptoms such as fever and body pain. Subsequent inspections confirmed Zika virus infections.
Due to the outbreak, three courts within the Thalassery Court were temporarily closed and, about 100 people were affected by illness. The court premises underwent a thorough disinfection process. Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. In response to the confirmed virus cases, the health department has decided to step up preventing measures, including mosquito eradication.
