Kochi: The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in Kochi seized four tourist buses that were set for a school study trip without the necessary permissions. This incident unfolded just before the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara, were about to embark on their journey to Ooty.
The MVD’s action came this morning, as the buses had not undergone the required inspection prior to departure. Officials have stated that the buses will only be released after the necessary fitness documents are provided.
At the time of the inspection, approximately 200 students were on board the four buses. While the last-minute intervention by the Motor Vehicle Department created a crisis for the study trip, officials emphasised that the inspection was carried out with the students’ safety in mind.
In response to the situation, the school authorities are diligently working to secure alternative transportation for the students. As of now, the children remain on the school premises.
