Alappuzha: Farmers in Alappuzha find themselves in a challenging situation as harvested paddy, known as Uma, remains in the field due to a disagreement with middlemen . The paddy was harvested a week ago, but middlemen are refusing to buy it without a 10 kg per quintal discount, a condition the farmers are unwilling to accept.
The harvested paddy is still lying around, which is a threat to its quality. The authorities have yet to take any concrete action in support of the farmers, leaving them with only promises. Only half of the rice crop has been harvested so far. There is growing concern that if the remaining crop is not harvested promptly, the rice may suffer damage due to changing weather conditions.
