Kottayam: The first phase of the second gate of Kottayam railway station is set to open in December. Railway officials have also announced plans to increase the speed on the Kayamkulam-Kottayam-Eranakulam route to 110 kmph, a project slated for completion by March next year.
The second gate of Kottayam railway station will feature two escalators and ticket counters, becoming operational before March. Additionally, a foot overbridge connecting all platforms is expected to be completed within the same timeframe. The reconstruction of Mother Teresa Road, linking the railway station to the Rubber Board office, is set to commence shortly.
To enhance the passenger experience, repairs, addressing platform leakages will be finished within two weeks. Furthermore, the platform on the Ernakulam side line at Kumaranellur Railway Station will be raised.
Before the start of the mandalam period, Kottayam railway station will offer expanded parking facilities. Special attention will be given to Sabarimala pilgrims. These initiatives aim to elevate the overall travel experience for passengers using Kottayam railway station.
