Kozhikode: In a recent programme addressing the challenges faced by women, P. Sathidevi, Chairman of the Kerala State Women’s Commission, emphasised the fundamental rights of women . Addressing the programme, she emphasized the crucial need to cultivate public awareness regarding the democratic rights of women.
“Women have full rights to decide whether to back out or continue marital and romantic relationships,” P. Satidevi said during the event. The programme aimed to shed light on the issues faced by women in the coastal region and promote a better understanding of their struggles.
Devi expressed her firm stance against rape, considering it the worst crime against women, and she reaffirmed the ongoing efforts of the Women’s Commission to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.
There are groups involved in trafficking in our society. The Women’s Commission actively probes the exploitation of women and ensures that the wrongdoers face justice.
She highlighted that, in the past, women were not considered proud to work, but today, societal perspectives have transformed. It is now widely recognised that supporting a family solely with the income of a man is no longer feasible. Women, with heads held high, are actively contributing to society with pride and purpose.
