Thiruvananthapuram: With over 23 million daily commuters relying on Indian Railways for their travel needs, and the challenges of ticket availability and overcrowding have become common concerns. However, passengers can take proactive steps to ensure a safer and more convenient train journey.
One common scenario faced by travelers is the unavailability of tickets to their intended destination. In such cases, opting to book a ticket for the nearest available station is a practical solution. Passengers can then approach the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) during their journey to secure a ticket for their desired destination, enhancing flexibility in travel plans.
Punctuality is crucial in catching trains, but missing the train at the boarding station doesn’t mean missing the entire journey. It’s essential to note that, TTEs will allocate unclaimed seats to other passengers’ two stops after the boarding station. This provides a window of opportunity for those who may have encountered delays.
Just like air travel, Indian Railways has established baggage limits. Passengers in reserved AC coaches are allowed a maximum of 70 kg of luggage, while those in sleeper class can carry up to 40 kg, and second-class passengers have a limit of 35 kg. Additional baggage beyond these limits incurs extra charges. For those travelling in AC class, the permissible limit is 150 kg, 80 kg for sleeper class, and 70 kg for second seating.
