Ernakulam: In response to a complaint filed by the mother of Devananda, a Plus One student from Kasaragod who recently passed away after consuming Shawarma, the High Court has issued a new directive. The court now mandates that the date and time of preparation be clearly stated on the packaging of all food items. This requirement extends to items purchased through parcel services as well.
Furthermore, the High Court has instructed the Food Safety Commissioner to oversee and ensure the proper implementation of this directive in hotels and take necessary actions. During the court proceedings, Devananda’s mother appealed for the court to take appropriate measures and provide compensation in light of her daughter’s tragic death.
Food Safety Commissioner Afsana Parveen, who was present online to elucidate the proceedings, highlighted an earlier order prohibiting the use of raw eggs in making mayonnaise. The Commissioner also emphasized that a significant risk arises when Shawarma is not consumed within the specified time after its preparation.
