Ernakulam: The Income Tax Department carried out raids on the offices of major contractors across various locations in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Perumbavoor. The raids were initiated following the detection of potential tax evasion activities.
EKK Constructions in Perumbavoor and Sreedhanya Constructions in Thiruvananthapuram were among the companies targeted in the raids, which commenced yesterday and continued into today. Officials from the Income Tax Department in Kochi conducted the raids in Thiruvananthapuram, where preliminary investigations suggested instances of tax evasion.
During the inspections, numerous documents related to significant construction projects were seized, and officials are also investigating the possibility of Hawala transactions. Additionally, the residence of the owner of EKK Infrastructure underwent a search. The Income Tax Department’s actions are based on suspicions that major contracting companies are involved in widespread tax evasion.
