Coimbatore: Robin Bus has been taken into custody by the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Department for alleged permit violations. The Gandhipuram Central Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials seized the bus at around 11:45 am near Chavadi after it crossed the Walayar border.
The bus owner, however, expressed confusion, stating that the RTO did not specify the nature of the permit violation. Despite this, the RTO took prompt action and seized the bus. The owner complied with the officials’ instructions to bring the bus to the Gandhipuram RT office and asserted his readiness to face any legal consequences.
The Robin Bus, which recently resumed its services, had already incurred substantial fines from both the Motor Vehicle Departments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Kerala department imposed a fine of Rs 37,500, while the Tamil Nadu department slapped a hefty penalty of Rs 70,410.
The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was introduced as an alternative AC Volvo bus for Robin, which operated from Pathanamthitta to Coimbatore via Eratupetta.
The decision ,to use a KSRTC as an alternative bus for Robin, occurred during a verbal dispute between the privately owned Robin Bus and the Department of Motor Vehicles regarding legal violations.
