Thrissur: The Kottaram Mookambika Temple in Thrissur fell victim to theft as its treasuries were broken into and looted. The robbers reportedly gained entry by breaking the tiles and proceeded to steal money from the vaults.
The incident was discovered by the Melshanti (temple priest), who arrived in the morning and saw that the treasuries in front of the shrine and on the pavement were broken into. Given the regular counting of money every two months due to the temple’s high footfall, it is speculated that a substantial amount has been lost in the theft.
The thieves are believed to have entered through the back corner of the temple after climbing up and breaking in when the main switch was turned off. The police and fingerprint experts have arrived at the temple to commence an investigation into the robbery.
