Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Railways is working on a big plan to upgrade railway tracks in Kerala, with the goal of enabling trains to reach speeds of 160 km per hour. The initial part of this significant project is happening now between Kochuveli and Petta.
Rail tracks, manufactured at Chhattisgarh’s Bhilai Steel Plant, were transported to Petta. The task of upgrading the tracks has been entrusted to the Chennai-based company, Shanta Construction.
52-gauge iron rails will be replaced with a more advanced 60-gauge iron rail system. This upgrade is anticipated to not only improve travel times but also enhance overall rail safety and efficiency. Officials have confirmed that trains will run on their usual schedules until the entire track upgrade is complete.
