Kannur: The distressing trend of farmer suicides continues in Kannur, with yet another incident involving Albert, a dairy farmer from Kolakkad committed suicide due to debt. The farmer took his own life after receiving a foreclosure notice from the bank. His body was found hanging in his residence.
Albert served as the president of the Kolakkad Dairy Co-operative Society for 25 years. This marks the second such incident in the district this month, highlighting the escalating crisis faced by farmers. Earlier, on November 17, another distressing incident unfolded in Iritti, where Subrahmanyan (71), a farmer from Ayyankunnu, took his own life. Subrahmanyan had abandoned farming due to rampant wild animal attacks, which forced him to leave his land and home. Seeking refuge in a rented house.
