Ernakulam: The High Court has intervened in the complaints that the Devaswom Board at Sabarimala is levying the entire amount for Kalabhabhishekam from devotees who directly provide the items for Kalabhabhishekam. The voluntary intervention by the High Court follows media reports on the matter.
The High Court Devaswom Bench has called for a detailed report from Sabarimala Special Commissioner, M. Manoj, regarding the allegations. The court has voluntarily impleading the Devaswom Vigilance SP and seeking an explanation from the Devaswom Board. A division bench, comprising Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice G. Girish, is scheduled to hear the petition again on the 29th.
The overall cost of Kalabhabhishekam at Sabarimala amounts to Rs 38,900, inclusive of the Devaswom fee of Rs 12,500. The complaint alleges that the entire sum is being collected from those who bring sandalwood as an offering.
