Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has expressed his strong stance against the practice of dowry, urging girls to reject those who demand such payments. The governor stated that it’s important for society to stand against dowry, and awareness campaigns to tackle this ongoing problem should increase.
His comments came during a media interaction after he visited the residence of Dr. Shahana, who tragically took her own life following the breakdown of her marriage proposal due to an inability to meet dowry demands.
Addressing the media, the governor condemned boys who demand money from the girl’s family, describing such behaviour as cruel. He further urged parents to instill in their daughters the strength to reject dowry demands.
