Kozhikode: The Kozhikode District Court has turned down the bail application of the four individuals accused in the tragic suicide of Shabna. However, the court has granted anticipatory bail to the father-in-law, taking his age into consideration. The four accused include Shabna’s husband Habeeb, mother-in-law Nabeesa, Uncle Haneefa, and husband’s sister Hafsath, who are currently in remand.
The incident occurred when Shabna took her own life after allegedly being physically assaulted by her husband’s uncle, Haneefa. Initially, Haneefa was the sole accused, with his arrest documented after CCTV footage surfaced showing him assaulting the deceased woman.
In the early stages of the investigation, the police were hesitant to implicate anyone else in the case. However, as public outcry intensified, additional individuals were named as accused. The charges filed against the accused parties include violations of the Domestic Violence Prohibition Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, and abetment to suicide.
