Malappuram: A Panchayat Overseer and his associate were apprehended while accepting bribe from an individual who applied for a house number at the panchayat office. The incident occurred at Nannambra Grama Panchayat. Panchayat Overseer Jafsal and his associate Digilesh who is a driver at the panchayat office, were caught by the vigilance team. They were found taking a bribe of Rs 3000 in exchange for assigning a new house number.
The complaint was filed with the vigilance by a resident of Tirurangadi. He had approached the panchayat office seeking a building number for his under-construction house. The panchayat officials conducted an inspection but left without assigning a number, citing an issue with the window installation. Following this incident, Digilesh contacted the house owner, demanding a bribe of Rs 3,000. The house owner reported this to the Malappuram Vigilance DySP. Yesterday afternoon, the accused were apprehended while receiving a bribe from the house owner.
