Kozhikode: The suspension of wheat subsidies in the state has triggered a crisis in the distribution of Amrutham powder at Anganwadi centers. The interruption in the availability of subsidized wheat has led to a halt in the distribution of Amrutham powder. Following the cessation of wheat supplies, several Kudumbashree units have ceased operations.
Amrutham powder serves as a vital supplementary nutrition source for infants aged between six months and three years, reaching over six lakh children through 241 Kudumbashree units in Kerala. However, Elegant Food Products in Ramanattukara, producing Amrutham powder since 2007, has also ceased operations due to the unavailability of subsidized wheat. Each unit was previously obtaining wheat for Amrutham Powder production at a subsidized rate of Rs 2.5. The child welfare department attributes the delay in the allotment order to technical issues.
