Improper vision test for driving license can lead to major accidents

Kannur: Even though the tests for driving license are being strengthened, MVD is not taking enough steps regarding the vision test. The problems that arise due to this are also huge. There is a strong demand for setting up an agency system at the government level regarding vision testing.

The situation now is such that, by paying a fee of Rs 200, a vision clearance certificate, even for the visually impaired, can be obtained.

The approach of doctors, who fail to follow the correct procedure during the vision tests, has lead to many road accidents. Currently, if you go to the doctor to check your eyesight, you only need to read the letters on the screen; you get a certificate immediately. Problems such as color blindness cannot be detected through this test.

Color blindness refers to a visual impairment. Color blindness or color vision deficiency (CVD) is the decreased ability to see color or differences in color. Not all colors are clearly distinguishable. People who cannot see green, yellow, or red are considered to be completely color blind. Seeing orange and brown colors in red is another problem. For some, green, yellow, and red colors can interchange. Such people are considered to be partially color blind.

Due to color blindness, not being able to recognize the colors in traffic signals can lead to major accidents. Officials indicate that 10 percent of daily accidents are caused by mistaking traffic signals.
