Kozhikode: Sanju Samson achieved the distinction of becoming the first Keralite cricketer to score an international century last year. His remarkable feat unfolded during the ODI series against South Africa, where Sanju’s maiden century played a pivotal role in securing victory for Bharat.
Taking the crease at number three in the crucial match at Boland Park, Paarl, Sanju Samson emerged as the backbone of the Blue Army, amassing an impressive 108 runs. The cricketer recently shared insights into the match during a private function held in Kozhikode, shedding light on the thoughts that crossed his mind when he stood at 97 runs.
Recounting the moment, Sanju disclosed, “After reaching 97 runs, I did not get a strike for two overs. At the non-striker’s end, many things were going through my mind. I thought of completing the century by hitting a six. However, the prayers of my family and my wife were resonating in my ears, and that shifted my focus.”
Reflecting on the overwhelming support from fans, Sanju mentioned that even when he returned home after scoring the century, he learned that fans had been fervently praying for his success when he stood in the crease by scoring more than 90 runs.
“This is a big deal for me. They are also praying for my personal success,” Sanju acknowledged, expressing gratitude for the tremendous support he received from his fans.
