Thiruvananthapuram: The 26 political leaders holding cabinet status in the state have amassed a total of 614 personal staff members. 420 of these appointments are tagged as political appointments, casting a shadow over the fairness and transparency of the recruitment process.
The Cabinet ranks, which include the Chief Minister, ministers, leader of the opposition, chief whip, speaker, and the special representative of the government in Delhi, are responsible for this influx. Politicians are being appointed as personal staff members alongside employees from the secretariat and other government departments.
While the personal staffs of Chief Ministers and ministers are capped at a maximum of 25 members, KV Thomas, the Special Representative of the government in Delhi, stands out with four personal staff members and one private secretary.
