Thrissur: Faced with mounting criticism for perceived inaction, authorities have finally taken decisive steps regarding the Government LP School in Thiruvilwamala. A decision has been made to construct a new building for the school, with MLA and Minister K Radhakrishnan securing the necessary funds with Panchayat approval. The Minister has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for this vital initiative.
The urgency for this decision became apparent after a section of the ceiling and roof collapsed in a classroom at Thiruvilwamala LP School just before the resumption of pre-primary classes on Friday morning. Fortunately, the incident occurred when the classroom was empty, averting a major disaster. The subsequent decision to construct a new building and undertake renovation work highlights a serious lapse on the part of authorities, as it comes only after the incident.
Notably, Thiruvilwamala LP School is the largest school in the area, with 71 pre-primary students and 196 LP students. The collapsed ceiling belonged to the pre-primary section, housed in a 70-year-old building. Parents have expressed frustration, claiming that their prior complaints about the urgent need for renovations went unheeded by the government.
