Thiruvananthapuram: Ration distributors across the state will commence an indefinite strike starting today, citing the non-payment of dues by the government as the primary reason for their action. The Transport Contractors Association has affirmed that the strike will not be called off until the pending payments are settled.
The Ration Dealers Association had yesterday, formally announced the state-wide indefinite strike to start from today, expressing their dissatisfaction with the government’s assurance that the outstanding arrears would be paid soon. Despite discussions held by the Food Minister and the Finance Minister, a resolution has not been reached.
During the discussion held yesterday, it was agreed that an allocation of 38 crore rupees would be made to settle the pending dues. The food department has indicated that this amount is expected to reach the accounts of the suppliers by Monday. However, the distributors have remained steadfast in their decision to continue the strike until the funds are received.
The current situation has created a crisis in the distribution of ration supplies, with the necessary items already reaching the ration shops in the state. As the strike persists, concerns are growing about the impact on the general public’s access to essential commodities.
