Kottayam: Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan inaugurated the new building of Passport Seva Kendra in the district. The Ministry of External Affairs is striving to provide a transparent and speedy passport service in the country. The Union Minister announced that the second edition of the Passport Seva Programme is being prepared.
Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, there has been an improvement in the passport services in the country. The situation where people from rural areas had to travel kilometers and stand in queues for hours to get passport services, has now changed. He added that the e-passport system will soon be implemented in the country and this will reduce challenges like fake passports.
The Union Minister expressed happiness that false claims which had spread when the Passport Seva Kendra in Kottayam was temporarily closed due to security threats, have been quashed. The minister also pointed out that many people even protested against Narendra Modi declaring that there will be no Seva Kendra in Kottayam.
