Kozhikode: A man was found dead at the Cherupuzha River near Mukkom Kadav Bridge on Saturday. The deceased, identified as VS Rajeesh (47), was a native of Mukkom, Manassery.
Rajeesh, who operated a CD shop in Mukkom, had gone fishing with a friend on Friday night, with both reportedly consuming alcohol during the outing. Although his companion returned home, Rajeesh did not return. Concerned about his absence, the family lodged a complaint at the police station on Saturday.
A search-and-rescue operation was launched immediately. On the riverbank, his belongings, such as his two-wheeler, clothes, mobile phone, and fishing net, were discovered. The rescue team eventually recovered Rajeesh’s lifeless body from a deep pit in the river near a playground in Kumaranelloor by noon.
According to a police officer from Mukkom police, Rajeesh’s friend, under the influence of alcohol, did not realise that Rajeesh was missing. The body has been shifted to the mortuary at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, for a postmortem.
