Kozhikode: In a setback for former MLA and CPI(M) leader George M Thomas, the Kerala State Land Use Board has issued an order mandating the release of surplus land held by George and his family. The Land Board further directed the Tehsildar to seize the land if it is not released voluntarily. The order specifies the handover of 5.75 acres of land owned by George to the government.
According to the Land Board’s directive, the authorities must clarify the details of the surplus land and provide a report for future actions. Several years ago, the Land Board discovered that George’s father possessed 16.40 acres of surplus land. Despite a previous order for the recovery of the land, the implementation was not carried out. George and his family hold 5.75 acres of surplus land in Kumaranellur and Kodiyathur villages.
