Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of a new law mandating the affixing of a label or sticker displaying the date and time on the outside of food product parcel covers, the Food Safety Department’s Special Task Force spearheaded a rigorous statewide inspection. A total of 791 institutions were scrutinized by 52 squads, leading to the issuance of notices to 114 hotels for violating the newly implemented regulation.
Additionally, 44 establishments received rectification notices for non-compliance. The Department of Food Safety has declared its intent to initiate adjudication action against 120 establishments found in violation of the law. Notably, the operations of six establishments with severe infractions have been completely suspended as a result.
Recent measures by the Health Department aimed at enforcing stricter adherence to the placement of stickers on food packages prompted the crackdown. Despite the recent regulations, widespread complaints surfaced, alleging non-compliance in various locations. The subsequent strict inspection aimed to address and rectify these concerns.
