Ernakulum: In the aftermath of the CUSAT tragedy, where a freak incident occurred during a Tech Fest at Cochin University, the state government has reiterated in court that the principal is responsible for the accident that happened at CUSAT. The government said in court that entrusting the complete responsibility of the Tech Fest to the students contributed to this unforeseen accident, emphasising a failure in organising as the primary cause.

The court instructed the registrar to report the actions taken in response to the former principal’s letter seeking police protection. The court also instructed the university to submit an affidavit addressing this matter.

During the court proceedings, the police explained that the tragedy unfolded due to the admission of more people into the auditorium than its capacity allowed. The auditorium was designed for 1,000 people, and the influx of 4,000 attendees created a hazardous situation.

Additionally, inviting individuals from beyond the campus to join the concert posed challenges. The police informed the court that the organizers couldn’t  anticipate the number of participants came to attend the concert.
