Thiruvananthapuram: Today marks the 4th death anniversary of P Parameswaran, the revered thinker, writer, and founder-director of Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram. In honour to his contributions to Indian thoughts and society, Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram will hold a ‘Shradhanjali Sabha’ at 6 pm, paying homage to his memory.
The Shradhanjali Sabha, scheduled at Samskrithi Bhavan, Statue Junction, Thiruvananthapuram, the headquarters of Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, will feature notable personalities including Shri R Sanjayan, Director of Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, former Union Minister Shri O Rajagopal, and Advocate CK Saji Narayanan, who will deliver a memorial lecture reflecting on the life and legacy of P Parameswaran.
P Parameswaran, affectionately known as Parameswarji, was a dedicated Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak hailing from Kerala. He was born on October 3, 1927, in Thamarasseril Illam, Muhamma village, Alappuzha district.
After completing his schooling in his hometown, Parameswaran pursued higher education at St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry, and earned a BA (Hons.) in History with a gold medal from University College, Thiruvananthapuram. His spiritual quest led him to collaborate with the Sri Ramakrishna Mission under the guidance of Swami Agamananda.
In 1950, Parameswaran became an RSS pracharak, following the guidance of MS Golwalkar (Guruji), the then Sarsanghchalak of the RSS. His dedication and leadership skills helped him serve as the organising secretary of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1957. Despite facing adversity, including imprisonment during the Indian Emergency (1975–1977), Parameswaran remained steadfast in his commitment to nation-building.
Transitioning from active politics to the realm of social thoughts and development in 1977, Parameswaran contributed significantly to various organisations, including the Deendayal Research Institute in New Delhi, founded by Nanaji Deshmukh. In 1982, he founded the Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram in Thiruvananthapuram.
Parameswaran’s unwavering dedication to nation-building and intellectual enrichment earned him national recognition, including the prestigious Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Vibhushan in 2018. His demise on February 9, 2020, marked the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of profound thought and selfless service.
