Palakkad: People in Palakkad district can buy Bharat Rice from today onwards. Bharat Rice was introduced by the central government, and it can be purchased for Rs 29 per kg. The sale of Bharat Rice in Palakkad will start from today at 10 am at the Stadium Bus Stand area, offering 5 and 10 kg packets to the public and it can be purchased  without the need of a ration card. Individuals can purchase Bharat Rice up to 10 kg at a time.

Spilt chickpeas will also be distributed along with Bharat Rice at Rs 60 per kg. Both rice and Spilt chickpeas are packed separately from Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns and delivered directly to the people. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) has undertaken the task of distributing Bharat Rice to all districts within the week.

Bharat Rice is procured from FCI godowns in Thrissur and Angamaly and undergoes polishing at the mill in Kaladi, Ernakulam, before packaging. Highlighting a significant price reduction, the NCCF officials said that the Bharat Rice is priced at Rs 29 compared to its market value of Rs 42 per kg.

Bharat Rice is selling through outlets operated by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED), NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar. The Bharat brand was launched by the central government with the aim of eradicating starvation in the country. Previously, Bharat Atta was made available at Rs 27.50 per kg, followed by Chana Dal at Rs 60, and now Bharat rice at Rs 29, significantly lower than the national average retail price of Rs 43.3 per kg.
