Kollam: A man was arrested while smuggling ration rice from Tamil Nadu to Kerala at the Puliyarai check-post in Tenkasi. Police arrested Patturajan (37), a native of Kovilpatti, in connection with the incident.
The accused was arrested during a routine check at the check-post in Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu. He was caught with seven tonnes of rice during a vehicle search conducted based on anonymous information. It is reported that the rice was being transported in a Kerala-registered lorry. The accused informed the police that the rice was intended to be delivered at rice mills in Kerala.
Police stated that incidents of illegal transportation of ration rice from Tamil Nadu to Kerala through state borders, processing it in rice mills, and selling it in Kerala at higher prices are increasing.
