Thiruvananthapuram: The permit duration for diesel autorickshaws used for taxi services in Kerala has been extended from 15 to 22 years. This notification was officially released by the Kerala State Motor Vehicle Department, amending the Kerala Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.
The order stipulates that diesel auto-rickshaws, which have completed 22 years (as of 01-01-2024), may be converted to electric or LPG-CNG-LNG and used for service.
However, goods vehicles are not addressed in this amendment. The criterion for them remains adherence to the fitness certificate for service continuation.
